1. Where will the workshop be held ?
So far, it is planned to be in the Auditorium 3210 at the Biomedical Engineering Department, (Arch. Building - 3rd floor). But, please stay tuned until the final confirmation is sent to you or announced on the website.
2. The Materials page is password protected. Why do you keep it locked?
This page will be ready just one day before the beginning of the workshop. Additionally, the materials will be uploaded on a daily basis to emphasize your valuable attendance.
3. I am not neither an undergrad. nor a grad. student. Am I allowed to register for the workshop ?
With great pleasure, you are welcomed to attend.
4. Are students from other departments allowed to register for this workshop?
Registration is highly recommended for undergrad. and grad students of Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering departments.
5. Who are the organizers of this workshop?
This workshop is organized by a group of undergrad. students, researchers, teaching assistants and professors from the Systems & Biomedica Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University and supervised by Prof. Dr. Yasser Kadah and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayman Eldieb.
6. What will be presented in this workshop?
This workshop will cover several themes or topics that are relevant to biomedical engineering in particular and computer engineering or related fields in general. There are 6 themes to be presented including Software Engineering, High Performance Computing, Computer Vision, Hardware Design, Medical Web (Portal) Design, Technical Writing and Medical/Scientific Visualization.
The following topics shall be covered INSHAA ALLAH
1. High Performance Computing: Introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC), Task-Parallel Vs. Data Parallel Techniques, Shared Vs. Distributed Memory Architectures, Race Conditions, Memory Architecture, OpenMP, MPI, Dataflow Programming, GPGPU or GPU Programming, CUDA, OpenCL, Exa-Scale Computing, Hybrid Computing Clusters, Heterogenous Computing, etc ...
2. Medical Visualization: Introduction to Rendering, Computer Graphics, OpenGL Pipeline, Rasterization Vs. Raytracing, Volume Vs. Surface Rendering, OOP-based Visualization, Scene-graph-based Rendering, Open Inventor, XIP, VTK, ITK, Shading Languages, Image Processing, Transfer Functions, Performance Optimizations.
3. Software Engineering: Introduction to Programming Languages (C++, Java, MATLAB, CUDA, Python, Ruby, Perl, Scala, Brainfuck, etc...), Programming Vs. Scripting Languages, How to Select your Programmgin Language, Programming Paradigms (Procedural, OOP, Event-driven, Task-driven, Functional, etc ... ), What is the most Suitable Paradigm to be Followed?, Software Build Systems (MS Visual Studio Vs. 7. I registered for the workshop, but I haven't received a confirmation mail to acknowledge my registration. Will you be sending an email or should I re-register again?
For the initial registration phase, once you registered, you will have your name listed in the participants list. If you don't find your name in the list, please re-register again. This initial registration is primarily intended to estimate the number of participants. There will be another registration phase two weeks before the workshop by mail, at which you will be receiving a mail from the organizers to confirm your final registration.
